Monday morning, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office was joined by 14 other law enforcement and fire responder agencies in escorting Deputy Jake Allmendinger, who died in the line of duty over the weekend, to the state medical examiner’s office in Billings.

“We haven’t left Jake’s side and we won’t. This escort is about showing our respect for one of our own who died in the line of duty,” Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin said.

Deputy Allmendinger was on a welfare check call on Fairly Lake Road in the Bridgers when he became trapped underneath his sheriff's vehicle and died on Saturday night.

The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office led the escort. Agencies that also took part in helping to escort Jake to Billings included police departments from Bozeman, Belgrade, Livingston and Billings; sheriff’s offices from Broadwater, Carbon, Lewis and Clark, Park, Sweet Grass and Yellowstone counties; and the U.S. Forest Service, Bozeman Fire Department and American Medical Response.

For those looking to help, a fund to help the Allmendinger family during this difficult time has been set up through the Montana Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association.

The Sheriff's department is encouraging folks to donate monetarily rather than with food or other items to best ensure their donations are used most effectively and don’t go to waste.

Monetary donations can be made in the following ways:
