There's no question that COVID-19 is causing families to re-evaluate getting together this Thanksgiving Holiday. Our recent poll shows that about 40% of those who participated said their plans have changed because of the current pandemic.

This week, the Gallatin City-County Health Department has reported five deaths related to COVID-19. The five included a woman in her 90s, two women in their 80s, and a man and woman in their 70s. According to the health department, all also suffered from other significant health conditions in addition to COVID-19.

The latest deaths bring our cumulative total to 18 here in Gallatin County. No one under the age of 50 has died locally with COVID-19. Ten of the 18 deaths have occurred in patients over 90 years of age.

The latest COVID-19 Hospital Occupancy and Capacity Report (HOCR) from the State of Montana shows that Bozeman Deaconess currently has 32 COVID patients. However, it could be as high as 34, as that's what the Gallatin City-County Health Department data is showing. The HOCR shows Bozeman Deaconess now has 23 available beds.

While the number of positive cases has spiked here in Gallatin County for the past two months, the death rate is at 0.25%, which is actually below the 0.30% it was at in September when cases began their current climb.

It should be noted, too, that testing has increased considerably over the past three months. In Gallatin County about 30,000 tests have been conducted since September 1st. In the six months from March to September, just over 22,000 tests were conducted.
