Pig Races? This Tiny Montana Town Hosts One Of The State’s Wildest Events
There are just some things that hit different in Montana. Like the Livingston Roundup on the Fourth, ski joring in Big Sky, or Butte's Irish Day celebrations—those are events you can't really replicate anywhere else. They're part of what makes this place... well, Montana.
So when I stumbled across a TikTok that simply said "somewhere in Montana" and featured baby pigs—with numbers on their backs—racing through what looked like a bar, I had to know more. It was equal parts hilarious and confusing, but I was hooked. A quick Google search for "Montana pig races" led me straight to the Bear Creek Saloon and Steakhouse, tucked away in Bear Creek, Montana.
When To Catch the Montana Pig Races
The races run from Memorial Day through Labor Day, kicking off at 7 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday. And don’t worry—it’s not just one race and done. You’ll catch up to 12 races a night, with pigs sprinting every 15 minutes while you enjoy dinner or grab a drink.
The bar opens at 4 p.m., and the dining room starts seating at 5. This place gets busy, so don’t bank on walking in and grabbing a table—reservations are definitely recommended.
Place Your Bets!
If you're 18 or older, you can throw in a small bet for a shot at some cash. Half of each $50 race pot goes to the lucky winner, and the other half helps fund scholarships for Carbon County high school students. So whether your pig wins or loses, it’s for a good cause.

From the balcony overlooking the tiny track, drink in hand, you'll be cheering for a pig in a numbered vest—and honestly, there’s nothing quite like it. It’s weird, it’s fun, it’s pure Montana—and it’s 100% worth the trip.
