Belgrade High School Cancels Sporting Events Due to COVID-19

Belgrade High School announced on Thursday that it is canceling all of its sporting events through Monday, October 5th, because of COVID-19.

In the past seven days, the Bozeman area has seen a spike in coronavirus cases. The Gallatin County Health Department has reported 177 new coronavirus cases since September 23. Seven people are now hospitalized, and Belgrade High School said in a letter released today that to be proactive during this latest increase in COVID cases, they would cancel their sporting events until next week.

Here is the letter that the school sent out today:

Hello Belgrade High School!

All sports and activities at Belgrade High School are canceled effectively immediately through Monday, October 5. We are doing our part to be proactive and transparent during the latest increase in COVID cases. We have many students currently in quarantine, and we feel that we need to put the interest and health of our students first. 

This means that the varsity football game Friday night vs Great Falls is now canceled. Freshman football, volleyball matches, and soccer matches are all canceled, too.

Currently, in Gallatin County, the health department reports there are 173 active cases of COVID-19. For ages 0-19, 227 cases of the coronavirus have been reported since March 13th when the first case of COVID-19 was recorded in the county. Overall, the county has recorded four deaths as a result of the virus, but none under the age of 50.

As of Thursday night, Belgrade High School is the only school in Gallatin County to cancel its entire sports schedule for any length of time.
