Alarming New Data Suggests We Have A Big Problem Here In Montana.
As our population ages and our workforce decreases, we are beginning to see several shifts in our society and some of them are not good.
A popular term that is often used by the younger generation these days for those of a certain age is "boomer". Of course, this isn't new, it is short for "baby boomers", which are a huge part of the American population.
Boomers are considered to be anyone born between 1946 thru 1964 and are the generation that came after the Second World War and the Korean War. So why are we talking about them? Because recent data states that here in Montana they have a much higher percentage of being abused.
WalletHub released new information regarding states with the best elder abuse protections and Montana came in second to last to the state of Utah.
So what is Elder Abuse? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the following are all types of Elder Abuse:
- Physical Abuse
- Sexual Abuse
- Emotional or Psychological Abuse
- Neglect
- Financial Abuse
In fact, when it comes to Elder Abuse, gross neglect, and exploration complaints Montana comes in as one of the highest states. The only states ranking higher than Montana are California, Nevada, and South Carolina.
Experts suggest that with the rising costs of everyday goods as well as the inflation that we are seeing across the country, the elderly are even more susceptible to abuse.
