Once again, an AI-generated video is making the rounds and tricking people left and right. In my opinion, this kind of thing is already getting out of hand, especially when it comes to fake news and emergency situations. The wild part is that we are only at the beginning of what AI can create. While scrolling through Facebook, I came across a video that looked pretty convincing at first glance. It showed what appeared to be a semi truck sliding off a snowy mountainside after breaking through a guardrail. The headline claimed the crash happened on Bozeman Pass.

At first, it’s convincing enough. A semi supposedly loses control on an icy road and drops off a mountainside. But viewers quickly noticed that the truck magically gains a trailer halfway down. Even more telling, the landscape doesn’t look anything like Bozeman Pass. If anything, it resembles the Teton Pass between Victor and Jackson Hole.

And here’s the kicker: if anyone had scrolled all the way to the bottom, the creator actually labeled it as AI. Jokes on us for not reading the caption closely. Still, that didn’t stop the video from coming with its own dramatic and totally fabricated backstory. The post claimed the driver suffered broken ribs, a fractured arm and was airlifted to Bozeman Health.

Even with all the telltale signs of AI manipulation, the video is blowing up online and pulling in a wave of reactions. Some comments are calling it out instantly. One person wrote, “AI certainly separates the smart and not smart.” Another said, “AI keeps getting better. Soon you’ll either believe everything you see or nothing.” And then there are people who watched it and reacted as if it were real, saying things like, “Exactly why I cringe on the mountains. Hate the mountains in the winter! So glad to hear this driver survived!"
