One of the best things about living in Bozeman is having so many outdoor activities right in our backyard.

Over the last few years, Bozeman has grown like crazy as more people have moved to the area from all over the country. Maybe it's the mountains. Maybe it's the lifestyle. Or maybe people simply want to live somewhere where you can step outside and immediately enjoy the great outdoors.

Whatever the reason, the City of Bozeman has some exciting news for people who like to walk, bike and explore.

According to a city press release, the Bozeman City Commission has decided to move forward with plans for a new trail that could eventually run from East Valley Road to the Gallatin Valley Mall.

And that's just the beginning.

The city's bigger vision is to eventually connect parks and trails throughout the western part of Bozeman, creating one larger, connected trail network.

Bozeman Mayor Joey Morrison explained the idea behind the project:

"Much like the Gallagator on the east side of town, the Cattail Trail will provide a north-south connection on the west side, providing more opportunities for biking, walking, and recreating. We have existing parks and trails in the area, but they aren’t connected. Through this work, we’ll be building new trails and improving existing areas to create a cohesive trail network that everyone can enjoy.”

The Cattail Trail Could Change How People Get Around Bozeman

Whether you're a serious cyclist, someone who likes to go for a morning jog, or you just want to take the dog for a walk, having more connected trails could make it easier to enjoy the outdoors without having to get in your car and drive somewhere.

And let's be honest—Bozeman has some pretty spectacular scenery.

Of course, anytime the city proposes a new project, there will be people who love the idea and people who aren't so sure about it. That's part of living in a rapidly growing community.

But the idea of connecting parks and trails throughout the city certainly has some appeal.

What Do You Think?

The Cattail Trail could eventually become an important part of Bozeman's outdoor recreation network.
