Dan and Grandpa

When the area looses a warm kind man loved by many, how best to honor his memory? How about a fundraiser for a group that grants wishes to critically ill children right here in Montana. Add in the celebration of his memory and his favorite past time- flyfishing- and you have a fundraiser handcrafted of Montana spirit and bone.

Both Saturday and Sunday May the 19th and 20th there is a fundraiser to benefit the Montana Hope Project in memory of Grandpa John Delekta. The Montana Hope Project makes wishes come true for critically ill children in Montana. The event goal is to provide enough to support one child’s wish.

Join us at the Beartooth Flyfishing Lodge and Flyshop at 2925 Highway 287 North in Cameron, Montana. If you have fished the Madison you probably know Dan and Nancy Delekta of Beartooth Flyfishing shop as well as knew Grandpa. Come on out and join in on the celebration.

Food will be served from 12PM to 7PM both Saturday and Sunday May 19th and 20th.
All food proceeds will go to the Montana Hope Project and 10% of all product sales in the flyshop will go towards the foundation. There will be a nice variety of food including Louisiana Gumbo, steak, salads, and desserts.

I hate having garage sales at my house. 

Once, when I was living in Casper, my sisters and I got together and had a garage sale.  I was working in television news at the time, and my sister thought it would be hilarious to put my picture in a frame, with a fake autograph, and charge $50 for it.

I was walking through my sisters’ stuff,  to see if there was something I might like, when I found it.  This was halfway through the day.

Then, a few years ago, I had a garage sale when I was pregnant.  I sat out in the hot sun all day, with a few people showing up at our out-of-the-way house.  I made less than $100.

This is why I am excited for the  Super Garage Sale this Saturday the  19th.  It starts at 8:30 and runs until 3…with early bird tickets available at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds starting at 7am.

You are going to get a ton of traffic at your booth, and you may even find a treasure at someone else’s. Plus, you don’t have to clean your house or garage!!!

On the evening of May 12, and during the early morning hours of May 13 an individual driving a late 1990’s to early 2000’s model two-tone Dodge quad cab pick-up truck with running boards drove through the areas of Amsterdam School and Manhattan Bank.  The truck is suspected in causing damage to the landscaping  and the parking lots. This has been an ongoing problem.

Even though Tug McGraw left this earth eight years ago, his superstar son Tim McGraw is continuing to do what he can to keep his legacy alive. On Tuesday June 5, McGraw will host a Celebrity Sporting Clay Shootout benefiting the Tug McGraw Foundation.

Joining McGraw for the event will be an all-star lineup, including the likes of Luke Bryan, Craig Campbell, Montgomery Gentry, Josh Gracin, JT Hodges, Jon Pardi, the Warren Brothers and many more guests, who will be announced in the coming weeks. Heading up the professional contingent for the event is Bill McGuire, the 2011 National Sporting Clay Champion.

The event will pair a pro shooter with a celebrity and two more individuals, making up a total of 15 teams. Each team will make their way through a 15-station sporting clay course to determine who are the top shooters. Celebrities and those in attendance will also be able to enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch and have the opportunity to bid on silent auction items including wine, dining, travel, and sports and music memorabilia.

The Celebrity Sporting Clay Shootout will be held at the Nashville Gun Club in Nashville, Tenn. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Tug McGraw Foundation and its efforts to improve the lives of military service members who have been affected by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Normally in situations like this, I said no as kindly as possible. Not because the proposition didn’t intrigue me, but I had just become quite good at saying no to things that were new and terrifying to me. And eighth grade girls are probably the most scary thing to a seventh grade boy besides having the whole student body see you naked.

This time was different. As if my mouth knew what was good for me, it spouted out, “Sure.” Not at all knowing what the next step should be, my heart began to race. Luckily my dance partner was much more gutsy and she grabbed my hands and led me to the dance floor. We went around in circles for what seemed like 30 rotations during the song not saying a word. It was a dizzying dance that lasted a lifetime and dropped dead as soon as the song ended. The eighth grader turned out to be just as shy as me and ran off the dance floor and I never even got her name.

After surviving what I thought was a near panic attack, I went back to my seat in the bleachers. My friends were pretty jealous to see that I had been dancing with an eighth grade girl. My head was swimming but I acted cool as I sat down with a smile on my face. I held that smile as long as I could to hide the terror that had not yet passed. When I finally recovered from what had just happened, I realized that girls aren’t as scarey as I thought. And they smell good too.

How do you top Time’s cover featuring a mother breastfeeding her fully-grown child? Call Obama “gay” and give him a rainbow-colored halo.

Fresh off his groundbreaking decree that he supports gay marriage, which trumped Joe Biden’s earlier pro-gay union statement, Barack Obama now graces the cover of Newsweek to promote Andrew Sullivan’s profile piece titled, “The First Gay President.”

Newsweek first released the controversial image on the morning of Mother’s Day via Twitter. There was no doubt it was their way of saying, “We see your breastfeeding, and we raise you a rainbow halo.”

The issue doesn’t hit newsstands until May 21st, but it’s already causing quite the commotion. So far, there’s no official response from The White House, but here are just a few of the responses from Twitter.

garage sale

You know how disappointing it is when you miss out on seeing one of your favorite artists play live? Well, imagine if you were on your way to a show and a drunk driver crashed into your car, and instead of in your concert seat, you ended up at the hospital. That’s exactly what happened to 13-year-old Taylor Swift fan Summer and her mom Michelle. Lucky for them, Taylor Swift is known for her big heart — she won’t let her fans miss out.

Summer had waited nine months to see the country-singing sweetheart play a show at Power Balance Pavilion in Sacramento, Calif. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when a drunk driver careened into Summer and Michelle’s car when they were halfway into their two-hour drive to the arena. While Swift was singing her heart out for a huge crowd at the pavilion, Summer and her mom were being carted off to the hospital. The teenage Taylor Swift fan sustained some serious injuries, including a nasty gash on her arm that left a scar.

When Officer Mike Lowry arrived on the scene to help, he was first taken aback by the scene of the accident. But before long, he turned his attention to Summer’s sweet attitude, noticing that she was smiling and putting on a brave face for her parents, despite her painful injuries.

Though the teen never made it to see the ‘Ours’ hitmaker in concert, the officer set out on a personal mission to ensure that Summer gets to a Taylor Swift show. Once Swift’s management team found out about the accident, they promised the brave fan that she’ll be guaranteed to see Swift next time she rolls through Sacramento. To tide Summer over, the ‘Safe & Sound’ hitmaker personalized and signed some Taylor Swift swag for her fearless fan.

Judging by Swift’s generous outreach to fans who need help (like Kevin McGuire, the high school student and two-time cancer fighter she invited to the ACMs), it’s not surprising that she would guarantee Summer and her mom a seat at her next gig.

Little leaguers in Redlands, California have gone almost all season without uniforms, a snack bar, or even a bathroom.

We may now know why.

Redlands East Valley Little League treasurer Kathrine Burrola has admitted to embezzling over $5,000 out of the league’s fund, stating that she had stolen the money because she had been out of work for two years.

Then, after promising to pay it back, she pulled her son out of the league and vanished.

The league has not only lost all of their money, but now it can’t afford to maintain its bathrooms or run its largest source of revenue –a snack bar.

After having to consider canceling the entire season, league board members put up $3,000 of their own money in order to keep it going. A large portion of the money went into making sure players had uniforms in time for the start of the season.

Just because the unemployment rate is high doesn’t mean everyone is desperate for work — some are even willing to leave their jobs altogether.

And when they do, the reasons they sometimes give are rather eyebrow-raising.

Staffing services company OfficeTeam recently surveyed more than 1,300 senior managers, who revealed the most bizarre things employees told them when heading for the door.

Some were truly head-scratching:

• “Our employee said he was joining the circus.”
• “One person left because she lost her cell phone too many times at work.”
• “We had someone quit to participate in a reality show.”
• “An employee said it was his routine to change jobs every six months.”

Others were following a dream:

• “One worker left to become an apple farmer.”
• “A staff member quit to climb Mount Everest.”
• “There was an individual who left to play the trombone.”
• “One worker quit to join a rock band.”

Some just weren’t cut out for 9-5:

• “One person left because she didn’t want to work so hard.”
• “Someone quit because she was going to live off her trust fund.”
• “An employee said work was getting in the way of having fun.”
• “The worker told us he just couldn’t get up in the morning.”

And still others had an overly-developed sense of aesthetics:

• “A person quit because he hated the carpet.”
• “One worker did not like the colors of the walls.”
• “The employee quit because the office building was unattractive.”
• “Someone felt the lobby area was too small.”

But regardless, Robert Hosking, executive director of OfficeTeam, said, “How you leave a job can be just as important as what you did while you were there…making a graceful exit by tying up loose ends and thanking colleagues shows your professionalism and can help you down the road in your career.”

Poor thing…even geniuses poop!

Three year old Emmelyn Roettger was on the Today Show with her parents, who were discussing her genius, when nature called.

Instead of showing off how displaying her 135 point IQ, she instead acted like a 3 year old who just needed to go to the bathroom.  It created an awkward live t.v. moment, but every parent who’s had a three year old understands.

My Kids

I love Mother’s Day.  Not because of the presents, but because my kids get so excited about it.  I always get wonderful homemade cards. 

I wonder what I did before I became a Mom.  Those funny, smart, kind, wonderful little people are the best things that have ever happened to me!  I can’t wait to spend Mother’s Day with them in Yellowstone!

I’m not good at very many things.  I have no musical talent, I am not artistic.  I’m a very good dancer after a couple of drinks…but don’t have many talents.  I do feel like I’m a good Mom.

Here’s to all you Moms out there!  I hope you get to spend the day with your kids, and that they show you how much you are loved!
