Nothing is better than sitting back, grabbing a cold drink, and enjoying America's National Pastime. My favorite time of the year.

Major League Baseball had its opening day on Thursday, April 7th, after a lockout and a shortened spring training, and people are excited. Very few Montanans get excited for the Major League season to start. I grew up playing baseball, and I can't get enough of it.

With the start of the 2022 Major League Baseball season, I asked myself, how many Montanans made the major league roster. The answer is exactly one player. Yes, the only Montanan from our great state who is on an active roster is Chicago Cubs pitcher Codi Heuer.

Codi Heuer is from Missoula, Montana, and played college baseball at Wichita State. Codi was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 6th round of the 2018 draft and quickly rose through the minor league system. 2021 was Cod's first season in the majors and became a reliable reliever for the White Sox. Then halfway through the year, he was traded across town to the Chicago Cubs.

Codi Heuer is currently on the injury list because he is still recovering from Tommy John's Surgery. I want to wish him a safe and speedy recovery and hope he comes back and blows people away.

I hope one day we get to see more baseball players at the major league level from Montana. Having someone from Montana playing professionally inspires young athletes to follow through with their dreams because they can come true. If you didn't know, Montana is adopting high school baseball starting next year, and this move could help further develop talent in our state.

Either way, we all should root for the Cubs a few times this season.
