Why Your Daily Coffee Might Cost More in Montana Soon

We all have our morning routines, and for most of us, they start with a cup of coffee… or two. Whether you're rushing out the door to swing by your favorite drive-thru or slowly brewing a cup at home while the day comes to life, coffee is a daily ritual for millions of Americans. It’s more than a drink—it’s a comfort, a kickstart, and sometimes the only reason we make it out the door on time.

Just How Popular Is Coffee in America?

According to the National Coffee Association’s Spring 2024 National Coffee Data Trends (NCDT), 67% of American adults reported drinking coffee just yesterday. That’s up from 49% back in 2004. Safe to say, coffee isn’t going anywhere—and neither is our need for that reliable caffeine boost to get things rolling (or just prompting an anxiety attack).

Coffee Prices Could Possible Rise

I make my own coffee at home 99% of the time—partly because I’m super picky about how I like it, and partly because I refuse to spend more than $5 on a single cup. It still blows my mind how much people drop on coffee every day. I know I sound cheap, but seriously—do the math, and it adds up fast. And now, it looks like those daily coffee runs might get even more expensive.

President Donald Trump announced his “Liberation Day” tariffs, which include new fees ranging from 10% to 46% on imports from 15 of the world’s top 20 coffee-producing countries. In other words… your favorite brew might be costing you more very soon.

With tons of coffee shops here Montana, they are definitely going to have to raise the prices if they go into full effect. With so much uncertainty happening with the tariffs, local business owners are concerned and hoping for the best.
