Starbucks Confirms Closures Across The U.S. What About Montana?
The seasons may be changing in Montana, but don’t worry, your favorite Starbucks latte (pumpkin spice, anyone?) is still flowing. At least for now. That’s because Starbucks just announced it’s closing down hundreds of coffeehouses across the country as part of its big “Back to Starbucks” plan.
Think of it like a remodel and a reshuffle. Some doors are closing, others are opening, and a lot of locations are getting fancy new facelifts. Nationwide, the company expects its store count to dip by about 1% this fiscal year, which doesn’t sound like much until you realize that’s hundreds of stores shutting their doors. Workers from California to Oregon have already reported closures, and according to online store locators, some of those cafes are already showing as permanently “closed.” At last count, at least 90 Starbucks locations are officially confirmed to be on the chopping block, with more to come.
Here in Montana? So far, so good. No Big Sky stores have been flagged for closure (yet). That means your go-to meeting spot, your quick pit stop, or that one lifesaving coffee run before hitting Bridger Bowl is still safe. But Starbucks has made it clear: this isn’t the full list, and more updates are on the way.

The company says closures are mostly tied to leases, financial performance, or spaces where they just can’t create the warm, cozy vibe customers expect. On the flip side, more than 1,000 stores are getting upgraded designs to make them extra inviting. So sip your latte in peace, Montana. For now, your Starbucks fix is safe.
