Two Popular Coffee Shops Set to Close In Montana
The seasons may be changing in Montana, but that doesn’t mean your pumpkin spice fix is safe anymore. Starbucks just dropped a fresh update on its “Back to Starbucks” plan, and this time, Big Sky Country didn’t make it out untouched.
Two Montana locations are officially on the chopping block. The West End Billings store at 316 S. 24th St. W. and the Livingston spot at 2000 Park St. are both slated to close. No official dates yet, but the news is confirmed.
The company says these closures are part of a broader strategy to boost long-term growth. Translation: some stores underperform, some leases expire, and some spaces just don’t fit the cozy, meet-up vibe Starbucks is chasing. Nationwide, the chain expects its store count to dip by about 1% this year, which equals hundreds of closures, even as they continue opening shiny new spots elsewhere.
And it’s not just coffee shops taking a hit. Around 900 non-retail jobs are also being cut, with employees promised severance packages and support. Meanwhile, Starbucks says it’s doubling down on sprucing up more than 1,000 stores with warm, layered designs meant to keep customers hanging out longer (and buying that extra latte, of course).

So, what does this mean for us here in Montana? Most Starbucks locations are staying put, but Livingston and Billings West End fans will have to find a new place for their caramel macchiato run. Consider this your heads-up: the list isn’t final, so keep an eye out. Until then, sip your PSL while you can.
