My daughter Rachel is 13. She's humored us quite a bit, watching movies her parents love (Ferris Bueller's Day Off is one of her favorites) and listening to music we like (she's totally into The Beatles right now, we actually watched Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band the other night. You know, with Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees).

Last Halloween we started easing her into scary movies (The Village, Poltergeist, The Sixth Sense), and this year we've already watched the original Halloween and Halloween II. Then she started begging us to take her to IT. Mainly because it stars Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things, which is her other new favorite thing.

I had actually read the book IT back in the day. Then the miniseries came out, which was just okay. But I am a Stephen King, and IT fan, so I was pleasantly surprised I would get to share the experience with my daughter. My only disappointment was figuring out at the end that there would be a part 2. And now you know.

Robin's Review: I really enjoyed the movie. It's set in the late 80s, where something terrifying has come back to Derry to claim its children. The child actors (all around age 14) in this movie are really good, and you do care about the characters, which in my opinion makes it more enjoyable than your usual "slasher" film. Oh, and thanks to Finn Wolfhard's character, there are a LOT of swears. I think the fact that the main characters are kids may make it less scary for teens to watch. However, we all agree, if you don't like clowns, you'll want to skip this one. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

Rob's Review: My husband Rob had never read the book or seen the miniseries. He liked this movie, but thought the jump scares were predictable and, like me, was also disappointed to figure out that we only watched "Chapter One." 3 1/2 stars out of 5.

Rachel's Review: She LOVED it! She thought it was scary, but exciting and fun, too. She says there's not a lot that scares her, but it was super creepy, and anyone that doesn't like clowns probably shouldn't see this movie. She really liked all of the kid actors, and would give it 6 out of 5 stars if she could.

IT: Chapter Two comes out September of 2019.
