Move Over Porkchop, Is This The Most Famous Sandwich In Montana?
We Montanans love our food, and why not? I mean, we've certainly contributed our fair share to the culinary world. Flathead Cherries, Huckleberries, Pasties, and the list goes on.
Of course, when you think of sandwiches and Montana, the first thing that comes to most people's minds is the Porkchop Sandwich. Made famous in Butte, this simple, yet delicious treat has been loved for generations and can still be found at Porkchop John's as well as the Freeway Tavern, but is it the best of the best?
Maybe, but there's a strong argument that can be made that another famous Montana sandwich might just be at the top of the list, and it is certainly very unique.
This "sandwich" really doesn't look like a sandwich at all. It looks like something that could have easily come from the future with its crazy tubular-shaped bread. Not only is it unlike any other sandwich out there, but it's also always pretty convenient to eat.
Of course, we're talking about the club foot sandwiches from the Staggering Ox.
So, how do they get the bread to bake like that? I'm not really sure, and to be honest, I don't care. I just know that it tastes great and you have different flavors to choose from, and who doesn't love options, right?
With three different locations in Montana, the Staggering Ox has been around for a few decades now and one thing is for sure, there's nothing else out there like them. I first ate at the Staggering Ox about 17 years ago in Missoula and it didn't take too many bites to realize, I was hooked.
Sadly, the Missoula location closed a year or two ago, but you can still grab some delicious grub at the Staggering Ox locations in Helena, Butte, or Billings. With all kinds of different selections including both hot and cold combinations, you're sure to find one or two that you love.
