Montana’s Gas Prices Are Rising: What Does That Mean For Summer Travel?

Yesterday was the first time I have filled up in a few weeks and wow, I was taken back by how much I had to pay.

I live in Bozeman and don't have a far drive to work, so a tank of gas can last me a couple weeks, easy. Throw in the fact that I didn't drive for a week, and it has been a bit since I needed to put gas in the tank.

I know that gas prices has gone up, but when the final total was darn near 80 bucks, I had a double take.

How much is gas in Montana?

According to my friends over at AAA the average cost of gas here in Montana is 3.71 per gallon. Now, keep in mind that is regular fuel, diesel will cost you more. The cheapest gas prices right now in Big Sky Country are 3.69 per gallon and you can find those prices in multiple counties. The highest cost, is Petroleum County where the cost is 4.33 a gallon.

For those who are curious, the national average right now is just over 4 dollars a gallon.

Most of this has to do with the situation in Iran and some experts predict that the longer the conflict goes on, the higher the gas prices will go. It should be noted that the national average has increased by a dollar in a month.

Where are the highest gas prices in America?

It probably wont come as a huge shock that the most expensive fuel prices in the country are in California, where the average price per gallon is just a few cents away from 6 bucks.

Of course this isn't the first, nor is it the last time we will see inflated gas prices, and one of the most famous tactics by oil companies is to raise it a dollar, then drop it 20 cents a few weeks later, and we all think we're getting a deal.

Then there is the tourist season, who will that affect the state economy? Folks come to Montana by the millions, and whenever gas goes up considerably, travel goes down.
