A 61-year-old man from Montrose, Colorado cut his own toes off to free himself after being pinned under a six ton trailer.

Jon Hutt was picking up logs in a remote area near Telluride when the trailer slipped and fell on his right foot. After 30 minutes of trying to find a solution when he came to terms with the fact that he had no cell service, he took out his pocket knife and went to town on his toes. He said, "I could not think of another way out." Hutt cut himself free, put the trailer back on the truck, then set the truck on cruise control. Once he made it to an area where his phone started to work he called 911 and met up with an ambulance.

He doesn't regret his decision either, adding, "Being alive is a big plus. It's not going to change my lifestyle, I don't think." The one thing it has changed, he said, is that he's hearing a lot of toe jokes. For example, his insurance agent told him, "I don't know why you called an ambulance. You should have called a tow truck."
