Jerrod Niemann is sporting some new ink on his left forearm these days in honor of his own musical hero. But it’s not the usual tributes to guys like Waylon Jennings or Merle Haggard that Niemann is giving a shout-out to — it’s honky-tonk legend Lefty Frizzell.

“Lefty Frizzell, in a very small explanation, was the reason I moved to Nashville,” Niemann tells Taste of Country, explaining the meaning behind the word “LEFTY” running down the inside of his arm.

One other coincident factors into the symbolic placement of the tat that he had done right after New Year’s. “I am left handed, as well,” he smiles, pointing out the font and stars also incorporated into the lettering. “Also the Wild West is where I’m from – Kansas – so I figured why not.”

Niemann’s fans have already been able to see the new tattoo up close and personal in the recent weeks as he criss-crosses the country with Miranda Lambert on her On Fire Tour, which also features Chris Young. “We are having so much fun on this tour,” notes Niemann. “Miranda is just one of a kind, inside and out. She is this person onstage – this star – and then even backstage, she is this genuine gem.”

Next month, Niemann will release, ‘Shinin’ on Me,’ the lead single from his sophomore album, slated to hit stores later this year. To hear the tune and see Niemann’s current tour dates both with Lambert and on his own, visit his official website by clicking here.
