Montana is home to many things, but one thing we don't have is a professional sports team.

Why? Our state's population is relatively small, and we lack a substantial media market to support a team.

Everyone has a favorite professional sports team. You could have a beloved NFL, MLB, NBA, or NHL team and watch every game you can during their season.

Many Montanans are limited to watching these teams on TV, but some will take trips to watch one or two home games during the season.

Montana has a few semi-professional teams. There are a handful of baseball teams, junior hockey teams, and an indoor football team.

Locals love these teams because they are affordable, fun, and a great way to spend an evening with your family.

Montana could have an opportunity to bring in a well-known minor league hockey team that is for sale, and it could be a hit with locals.

It's not a bad idea.

The Utah Grizzlies are a minor league hockey team for the Colorado Avalanche. The team competes in the ECHL against teams in Boise, Wichita, and many others.

The owners of the Utah Grizzlies announced they plan to sell the team by the end of 2026, and a potential relocation could be in the works.

Why should the team move to Montana?

Montanans love watching and playing hockey across the state. Locals would love to have a minor league team affiliated with an NHL team because we could see future players in our home state.

Where would be the likely locations?

It would have to be a city with an arena that could fill thousands of seats. Billings, Bozeman, and Missoula would be the likely locations.

The minor league hockey team would have to play at either the Adams Center, the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse, or MetraPark to house the team.

That would be amazing. Watching a hockey game in the Brick or the Adams Center would be fantastic for fans.
