Hate Living In “Bozeangeles”? Here Are A Few Hated Solutions.
Now, this may not be the "few ways" you want to hear, but I am going to be harsh, blunt...and well, honest.
Take a minute and look at who you work with, go to class with, go to church with, whatever it may be, and ask yourself "are they actually from here?" For the most part, the answer will be no. Although you will have some that will say, "well I have lived here since 2004" or whatever. But that is still not technically "from here".
Now I am going to make many of you annoyed and upset. But the reality of it is, if people keep coming to Bozeman, the prices will continue to hike. So here you go:
Solution Number 1: Move. You can easily move to a surrounding town, have the short commute back into Bozeman for concerts, MSU events, shopping, etc. Here are a couple of options that do not involve a "pass".
Belgrade, MT: Population in 2020, a little over 10,400. Rent is right around 200-400 cheaper per month, homes are slightly cheaper if you are wanting to purchase, and you are closer to the airport if you travel a lot. Check out this website for the 10 Best Things about Belgrade.
Three Forks, MT: Just seven miles from Bozeman, home prices are MUCH more reasonable, and rent, although tough to come by, is significantly lower. Here is the best part, rated BEST PLACE TO RAISE A FAMILY! What else could you ask for?
Solution Number 2: Start blasting our local social media, government officials. Start demanding some answers from the people who are allowing the price hikes, the inflation, the people who approve to pay an hourly wage so little that unless you make $200k PLUS a year, you will most likely not be buying a home. And yes, I do realize businesses are paying what they can afford, but how much is the rent of the building they are in?
I know this is not the ideal solution, but I, like most of you, don't really get it, and most likely it is not going to slow down. So we have to problem-solve for ourselves. Let's use our voices and stop the crazy prices, then maybe it won't be so annoying having new people come to this wonderful community.
