Gallatin County: Over $1 Million Boost For Public Lands
In my honest opinion, one of Montana’s most valuable resource is our public lands. With over 30 million acres across the state, it takes serious time, effort, and cash to keep them maintained, let alone make improvements. That’s why it’s big news that the Gallatin County Commission just greenlit over $1 million in funding for Public Open Lands Projects.
Thirteen local projects across Gallatin County will split $1,099,016 to improve parks, build trails, and expand outdoor access. The money was unanimously approved by the Commission back on April 29, and it’s all part of the Open Lands Program’s plan to keep our wild spaces in top shape.
The projects span all over—Bozeman, Belgrade, Three Forks, West Yellowstone, Four Corners, Big Sky, Bridger Canyon, and Gallatin Canyon are all set to benefit.
One exciting highlight? A brand new 6.25-mile trail system in the works thanks to a collaboration between the Southwest Montana Mountain Bike Association, The Dirt Concern, Bridger Bowl, and Crosscut Mountain Sports Center.
Here’s a quick look at some of the organizations getting a piece of the pie and where those dollars are headed...
- City of Bozeman – Construction of a splash pad at Story Mill Community Park – $100,000
- Gallatin River Task Force – Parking improvements for Hebgen River Access – $100,000
- City of Belgrade – Mayfair Meadows bike park construction – $100,000
- Headwaters Trail System – Trail surface and pedestrian bridge maintenance – $100,000
- Trout Unlimited – Mandeville Creek restoration – $90,000
