Very gusty winds up to 60 mph are possible for several counties in southwest Montana this weekend. Concern arises with all of our trees now in bloom and fully leafed.

From Saturday morning through Sunday night, windy conditions are expected. It is advised to keep a close eye on the weather.

If you're not going to be in town or near home, consider putting away lightweight outdoor items. (They can get picked up and become damaging projectiles.)

According to the National Weather Service:

  • HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT.
  • WHAT...Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph, with gusts near 60 mph possible.
  • WHERE...Beaverhead, Cascade, Madison, Judith Basin, Jefferson, Broadwater, Meagher and Gallatin counties.
  • WHEN...From Saturday morning through Saturday evening.
  • Gusty winds may blow down limbs, trees, and power lines.
  • A few local power outages are possible. Travel may become difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
  • Because hardwood trees are fully leafed out, chances of some tree damage is higher with this wind event.
