Snow to Start the Weekend in Bozeman Area
Snow is expected in the Bozeman area Friday afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until Friday at 9 p.m. for this storm. Strong gusty winds as high as 35 mph are expected in the Bozeman.
With this storm we can expect:
- 2 to 4 inches expected for the Bozeman area
- Up to 5 inches possible in the upper elevations
- Blowing drifting snow
- 35 mph winds in the Bozeman area
- Reduced road conditions
- Highs in the low-30s and upper 20s (lows in the teens)
- Slippery roads
- Low visibility
- Difficult travel especially for mountain passes
The National Weather Service has issued the Winter Weather Advisory for Portions of Gallatin, Madison, and Beaverhead counties. The advisory includes Big Hole, Targhee, and Raynolds Pass until 9 p.m.
Strong winds are expected and the Livingston Area and Beartooth Foothills have a wind advisory until noon Friday. Southwest wind gusts up to 60 mph are predicted and travel on I-90 near Livingston will most likely be affected.
This storm will be good for the snowpack in the local mountains, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, which is currently 103% to the normal yearly average in Gallatin County. Last year in February, the Bozeman area received a record 29.7 inches of snow.
The increased snowpack will aid the local ski conditions at Big Sky Ski Resort and Bridger Bowl. If you are planning on hitting the slopes be sure to check the latest conditions here.
