Bozeman’s Beloved Cactus Records Searching For a New Location
Cactus Records in downtown Bozeman is a local landmark. It is one of the few places in Bozeman that hasn't changed much over the years. It is a destination for music lovers in the Bozeman area and beyond. Personally, I have purchased a lot of vinyl at Cactus Records.
Cactus Records first opened in Bozeman in the 1970s. It was located in a small space in front of a service station at the intersection of Babcock St. and Willson Ave. before moving to the basement of the Baxter Hotel. In the mid-80s, the record store moved into its current location in the Hathhorn Building at 29 W. Main St. in downtown Bozeman.

Sadly, Cactus Records is in search of a new location. The Hathhorn Building, where the business is located, has been listed for sale. The space features approximately 3,100 square feet of retail space and 1,700 square feet of basement office/storage space. It's listed by Mckenna Adams Commercial Realty for $1,800,000.
We talked to Cactus Records' owner, Mike "Bueno" Good about what the future holds for Cactus Records. He told us that he's optimistic about finding a new location and that the possibility of staying downtown is currently out of the question. At first, he had considered purchasing the building but wasn't able to make it work.
Bueno currently has a few leads on new locations but didn't give much detail. Despite having to find a new location, Bueno says he's excited about what the future holds, and he's committed to continuing to serve Bozeman.
Can we start a go fund me to purchase the building to keep Cactus Records where it is? Downtown Bozeman definitely won't be the same without it.
