The Gallatin County Motor Vehicle Office in Bozeman and Belgrade announced they will be closed this Friday, November 20th, and Monday, November 23rd. The closure is because the State of Montana Department of Justice has planned a system upgrade for the computer software that is used to conduct vehicle registrations and renewals.
Both offices will be closed and are hoping to be open to provide motor vehicle services on Tuesday, November 24th, but could be down until after the Thanksgiving holiday. At the latest, they are planning to be back on November 30th.
As a part of the closure announcement on the Gallatin County Government Facebook page, they stated "We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience."
This closure comes shortly after the Bozeman office was closed in October for several weeks after experiencing exposure to COVID-19. Details here.

If you need to get your vehicle titled or registered here are some options for you:

  • If you have recently purchased a vehicle from a dealership you have an automatic 90-day extension to title and register your vehicle. All renewals also have an additional 30 day grace period past the stated expiration. These new policies were implemented because of COVID-19.
  • You can complete renewals online here.
  • If you have any additional questions you can email their office at mv@gallatin.mt.gov.

Remember, the Gallatin County Motor Vehicle Offices do NOT process Montana Drivers' Licenses, road testing, VIN inspections, and other related services. Those services are available at the Gallatin County Driver's License Office located at 2005 Gilkerson Dr. #B, Bozeman, MT (off of Griffin Drive).
