Is Bozeman Montana Finally Getting A Trader Joe’s? Big Development Raises Questions
If you mention certain words in Montana, you are bound to hear a mix of reactions. Words like building, new development, and progress all point to one thing: change. In many parts of the country, change is expected, but here in Montana it tends to spark debate. I understand it. I love our wild spaces and hate seeing open pastures or forests turn into anything other than what nature created. Still, the one thing we can always count on in life is change, and Bozeman is experiencing another wave of it with a large new project taking shape on the west side of town.
If you have driven down Huffine recently, you have probably noticed the major construction happening. The project is called Urban Farm, a 106 acre mixed use neighborhood planned between Gooch Hill and Cottonwood. Phase one began back in 2019 with condos, apartments, and homes. What we are seeing now is phase two, which involves building out almost 86 acres of infrastructure. A new traffic light at Huffine and Laurel Parkway is also part of the plan. Once this phase wraps up, third party developers will start going vertical.
The complete vision includes a wide range of housing options, restaurants, retail, health and wellness spaces, and possibly even a hotel. While exact businesses have not been confirmed, about 40 percent of the project already has letters of intent. One idea floating around is a Trader Joe’s. Nothing is guaranteed yet, don't get to excited, but the idea alone has stirred plenty of curiosity.
