Bozeman Area Rivers Rising; Flooding Already in Some Areas
Due to high water levels, the National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for snowmelt in Gallatin County. The Gallatin River from Big Sky to near Logan is already experiencing minor flooding and is expected to see rising levels.
Lowland areas along the Gallatin River are likely to experience flooding. This includes Belgrade, Manhattan, Gallatin Gateway, Bozeman Hot Springs, Four Corners, Church Hill, Amsterdam, Big Sky, Logan, and Gallatin Gateway.
Minor flooding is also occurring along the Yellowstone River. The river, especially the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone near Belfry, has reached minor flood stage.
Warm temperatures are expected to continue melting off existing snowpack in the mountains. The snowmelt will increase flows of rivers and streams including the Gallatin, Yellowstone, Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone, Shields, Boulder, Stillwater, Little Bighorn, and Tounge Rivers.
Those who are in a flood-prone area should consider taking flood preventative measures such as sandbagging, moving equipment, moving livestock, and using extra caution when near the water.
