National Politicians Bring Big Crowds To Montana Rally
I was listening to the Montana State News Network, and they were talking about the big crowds that showed up in Missoula to see Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
By estimate the crowd was about the same size as when President Trump showed up in the Garden City a few years ago as well as when President Obama came to Missoula back in 2008.

While Montana is known as a "Red State", there is still lots of blue and a good bit of purple througout Big Sky Country. Cities like Bozeman and Missoula are more liberal than the rest of the state, but they also have large numbers of people. So, is it a surprise that 8 thousand people would show up to a political rally in the state's most left-leaning city?
Why is this noteworthy?
Well, for a couple of different reasons. One, there is talk that AOC could run for President in the next election cycle. Sanders, who's run for the nation's highest office more than once, has a massive following of young voters and is a bit of a "political" rockstar.
The other interesting point to be made is that both of these folks are East Coasters, and there are a whole lot of Montanans who don't like anyone from outside Montana. So why would two non-Montanans who, by all accounts do nothing that embraces the Montana lifestyle bring in such a big crowd?
Well, it's ice cream sandwiches.
When I was a kid, we would have student elections in Jr. High and High School. Folks would run for office, and we would all gather together in a school assembly to hear what they had to say. There was always that person who took things seriously. They wanted to change this and add that. They were all about policy. Then there was the kid who stood up and promised everyone ice cream sandwiches.
The ice cream sandwich kid always won.
My point? It doesn't matter where a person is from. It doesn't matter their background. What matters is what they promise us they will do for us, and if we believe them. If someone tells you that they're going to provide free this and free that, and the rich guy is going to pay for it, well, why wouldn't you vote for them?
Here's the problem: the rich guy never pays.
So, who is to blame? The person who promised the ice cream sandwiches or the person who voted for the person who promised the ice cream sandwiches? Oh, and by the way, it's not just one party. Both promise things to their base that they never deliver, and even though most of us know this, it doesn't stop us from voting for "our team".

So, whether it's a tax cut, stimulus check, free healthcare, or free schooling, it's all ice cream sandwiches. Having said all that, now I'm craving an ice cream sandwich.
