According to the L.A. County Coroner, the official cause of Whitney Houston's death has been listed as an accidental drowning.   According to TMZ.com, the toxicology report also found that Whitney had cocaine in her system when she died, noting that heart disease and cocaine use were contributing factors in her death.

A source connected to the investigation told the site that it is "very possible" that Whitney had a heart attack that caused her to lose consciousness and drown. The heart attack may have been triggered by hardening of the arteries as a result of cocaine use.

  • Whitney was found dead in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton on February 11th. Several pills were found on the scene -- including Xanax, Ibuprofen and Midol. Invesitgators found no evidence of cocaine in the hotel room.

The Houston family has released a statement, saying, "We are saddened to learn of the toxicology results, although we are glad to now have closure." According to TMZ.com, Cissy was shocked to learn that Whitney was using cocaine at the time of her death, but believes the relapse was triggered by anxiety over Whitney's comeback plans.

  • Sources close to Cissy said that she believed her daughter was sober while shooting the movie Sparkle. But as Whitney got closer and closer to the Grammys, where Whitney would make her comeback, she fell prey to the drug. Cissy reportedly said that hearing that Whitney was using again is like reliving her death -- it's that painful.

Coroner Chief Craig Harvey said in a news conference that Whitney Houston used cocaine immediately prior to her death. According to TMZ.com, he claimed that the toxicology results suggested that the pop icon was a "chronic" cocaine user." Harvey described the cocaine level in Whitney's system as "acute" -- indicating that the singer used the drug not long before she accidentally drowned in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel last month.

According to Harvey, the autopsy revealed a 60% narrowing of Whitney's arteries -- a direct result of the chronic cocaine use. Harvey claims the artery constriction led to a cardiac event before her death.

  • Harvey also claimed that the other drugs in her system were marijuana, Benadryl, Flexeril, and Xanax -- which he claimed were all at or below therapeutic levels ... and did not significantly contribute to her death.

Sources close to Whitney Houston -- who was with her the day she died told the site that someone removed all traces of cocaine from the room before the cops arrived. Although the coroner's office says Whitney used cocaine immediately prior to her collapse, but investigators who arrived on scene found no traces of cocaine or any other illegal substances.

  • One source said who is close to the situation said that the person who removed the cocaine was also the person who supplied it to Whitney.
