This Popular Landmark Is In Heart Of Montana’s Grizzly Country
Each year, millions of people from all over the world travel to Montana in hopes of seeing a grizzly bear. After all, they are truly impressive animals.
With two National Parks in the state, we often hear stories about people getting too close to grizzlies, and stories about bear attacks are uncommon.
According to a U.S Fish and Wildlife Service study in 2019, there are an estimated 1,913 grizzly bears in the lower-48 states, and many of them are in Montana.
Currently, grizzly bears primarily exist in four ecosystems: the Northern Continental Divide (NCDE), Greater Yellowstone (GYE), Cabinet-Yaak (CYE), and Selkirk (SE) ecosystems.
This past summer, a grizzly bear attacked and kill a woman while she was camping near the south end of Montana's Bob Marshall Wilderness. A tourist in Yellowstone National Park was bluff charged by a sow grizzly attempting to protect her cubs earlier this year as well. Watch the video here.
One of Montana's most interesting tourist attractions is located in the heart of grizzly bear country. It's a giant cow! If you've ever taken a trip to Seeley Lake, you've most likely driven right passed it. The big ol' bull is located at Clearwater Junction about 40 miles west of Lincoln, Montana in front of the Clearwater Stop N Go gas station.
The popular landmark recently got a makeover and was repainted. Many folks were concerned that the iconic cow had finally been put out to pasture, but after an update, it still stands proudly at Clearwater Junction.
