Virginia City is a historic gem that used to be the capital of Montana. I've been visiting Virginia City since I was five years old, and I'm always happy to make the trip.

There's something very peaceful about strolling the boardwalks and enjoying the stories of such an important little town in Montana's history. (It wasn't so little way back when!)

The area around Virginia City was considered the richest place in the Rocky Mountains with gold deposits estimated to be worth about 100 million dollars. Alder Gulch runs between Virginia City and Nevada City, about a mile apart. The gold discovery happened in 1863.

Virginia City hosts plenty of cool events throughout the year, especially in the summertime. Even when there's NOT a big thing going on, it's easy to just enjoy the town with a historic tour, some lunch, a cold beer and a train ride.
