3 Of The Tallest Buildings In These Montana Towns Are Remarkable
With all the new construction happening around the state of Montana, you will notice there are not a lot of "sky scrappers" going up. Which is a good thing! We don't want the mountain views hidden any more than they already have been.
Billings has the tallest building in Montana and the Northern Rockies so far and has for quite some time.
The First Interstate Center is located in the Transwestern Plaza and is home to 20 floors and four office towers. Construction started in 1984 and First Interstate Center was completed in 1985. Since then (over 35 years), the building has held its title as the tallest in Montana.
What is the tallest building in Bozeman? Some may think it is the Baxter Hotel, but it is The Kimpton Armory Hotel. With just 9 floors, it seems like a baby compared to the First Interstate Center in Billings.
The Kimpton, often called The Armory, not only hosts beautiful rooms, but it also has the Sky Shed Lounge on the top with a pool and bar. You can grab an appetizer and drinks all while enjoying the mountain views.
Just down the road, in wonderful Butte, you will find the tallest building in historic uptown. The Finlen Hotel & Motor Inn has ten floors and opened in 1924. Built of brick, you will also notice the one-of-a-kind copper mansard roof.
Is it still a hotel? Kind of. It does have two floors of hotel rooms available, but there are at least 40 apartments and offices, along with a lounge taking up the space as well. If you are ever in Butte, you should check it out. The vaulted ceilings and crystal chandeliers are breathtaking.
