Flooding due to snowmelt is nothing new in the spring, but flooding in very rural areas is extra dangerous. Having less traffic and fewer people around means less help if you find yourself in a jam on a flooded roadway. Even minor flooding can become an emergency if your vehicle becomes stuck or disabled.

According to the National Weather Service: "Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars causing loss of control and possible stalling." NEVER drive around barriers that have been set up on roadways, even if water is not visible on the roadway. Water can also hide dips on the road surface, creating more hazards.
