New Netflix Instant Releases — December 2013
The holiday season is in full swing -- and so is winter. What better way to avoid the chill than by camping out indoors next to the warm glow of your television with some great movies? There's a whole new batch of titles headed to Netflix Instant, from modern classics to old favorites. Read on for our guide to the best movies coming to Netflix this December.
December 1
'Apocalypse Now' (1979) -- Starring Martin Sheen, Marlon Brando, and Robert Duvall. During the U.S.-Viet Nam War, Captain Willard is sent on a dangerous mission into Cambodia to assassinate a renegade colonel who has set himself up as a god among a local tribe.
'Bad Lieutenant' (1992) -- Starring Harvey Keitel, Victor Argo, and Paul Calderon. While investigating a young nun's rape, a corrupt New York City police detective, with a serious drug and gambling addiction, tries to change his ways and find forgiveness.
'But I'm a Cheerleader' (1999) -- Starring Natasha Lyonne, Clea DuVall, and Michelle Williams. A naive teenager is sent to rehab camp when her straitlaced parents and friends suspect her of being a lesbian.
'Coffy' (1973) -- Starring Pam Grier, Booker Bradshaw, and Robert DoQui. A black nurse takes vigilante justice against inner-city drug dealers after her sister becomes their latest victim.
'Cry-Baby' (1990) -- Starring Johnny Depp, Ricki Lake, and Amy Locane. In 1950s Baltimore, a bad-boy with a heart of gold wins the love of a good-girl, whose boyfriend sets out for revenge.
'Dances with Wolves' (1990) -- Starring Kevin Costner, Mary McDonnell, and Graham Greene. Lt. John Dunbar, exiled to a remote western Civil War outpost, befriends wolves and Indians, making him an intolerable aberration in the military.
'Friday Foster' (1975) -- Starring Pam Grier, Yaphet Kotto, and Godfrey Cambridge. An ex-model and photographer unwittingly captures an assassination attempt and finds herself caught up in a web of conspiracy and violence.
'Gods and Monsters' (1998) -- Starring Ian McKellen, Brendan Fraser, and Lynn Redgrave. The last days of 'Frankenstein' director James Whale are explored.
'A Good Woman' (2004) -- Starring Helen Hunt, Scarlett Johansson, and Tom Wilkinson. While retaining her secret identity, the illustrious Mrs. Erlynne (Hunt) saves Lady Windemere (Johansson) from making a grand social faux-pas with the scoundrelly Lord Darlington.
'Hannibal' (2001) -- Starring Anthony Hopkins, Julianne Moore, and Gary Oldman. Hannibal returns to America and attempts to make contact with disgraced Agent Starling and survive a vengeful victim's plan.
'Hard Eight' (1996) -- Starring Philip Baker Hall, Gwyneth Paltrow, and John C. Reilly. A small-time professional gambler takes a down and out man under his wing -- things are going well until the newcomer falls for a cocktail waitress and hooker.
'The Haunting' (1999) -- Starring Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Owen Wilson. When Eleanor, Theo, and Luke decide to take part in a sleep study at a huge mansion they get more than they bargained for when Dr. Marrow tells them of the house's ghostly past.
'The Haunting in Connecticut 2' (2013) -- Starring Abigail Spencer, Chad Michael Murray, and Katee Sackhoff. A young family moves into a historic home in Georgia, only to learn they are not the house's only inhabitants. Soon they find themselves in the presence of a secret rising from underground and threatening to bring down anyone in its path.
'Highlander: Endgame' (2000) -- Starring Christopher Lambert, Adrian Paul, and Bruce Payne. Immortals Connor and Duncan Macleod must join forces against Kell, an evil immortal who has become too strong for anyone to face alone.
'Kalifornia' (1993) -- Starring Brad Pitt, Juliette Lewis, and David Duchovny. A journalist duo go on a tour of serial killer murder sites with two companions, unaware that one of them is a serial killer himself.
'Modern Problems' (1981) -- Starring Chevy Chase, Patti D'Arbanville, and Dabney Coleman. Jealous, harried air traffic controller Max Fiedler, recently dumped by his girlfriend, comes into contact with nuclear waste and is granted the power of telekinesis, which he uses not only to win her back, but to gain a little revenge.
'My Boss' Daughter' (2003) -- Starring Ashton Kutcher, Tara Reid, and Andy Richter. When a young man agrees to housesit for his boss, he thinks it'll be the perfect opportunity to get close to the woman he desperately has a crush on - his boss's daughter.
'Once Bitten' (1985) -- Starring Jim Carrey, Lauren Hutton, and Karen Kopins. A vampire Countess needs to drink the blood of a virgin in order to keep her eternal beauty. It seems that all is hopeless, until she bumps into Mark Kendall.
'Resident Evil: Apocalypse' (2004) -- Starring Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, and Eric Mabius. Alice awakes in Raccoon City, only to find it has become infested with zombies and monsters. With the help of Jill Valentine and Carlos Olivera, Alice must find a way out of the city before it is destroyed by a nuclear missile.
'A Shot in the Dark' (1964) -- Starring Peter Sellers, Elke Sommer, and George Sanders. As murder follows murder, beautiful Maria is the obvious suspect; bumbling Inspector Clouseau drives his boss mad by seeing her as plainly innocent.
'Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home' (1986) -- Starring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelley. To save Earth from an alien probe, Admiral Kirk and his fugitive crew go back in time to 20th century Earth to retrieve the only beings who can communicate with it, humpback whales.
'Star Trek: First Contact' (1996) -- Starring Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, and Brent Spiner. Captain Picard and his crew pursue the Borg back in time to stop them from preventing Earth's first contact with an alien species. They also make sure that Zefram Cochrane makes his famous maiden flight at warp speed.
'Star Trek: Generations' (1994) -- Starring Patrick Stewart, William Shatner, and Malcolm McDowell. Captain Picard, with the help of supposedly dead Captain Kirk, must stop a madman willing to murder on a planetary scale in order to enter a space matrix.
'Tetro' (2009) -- Starring Vincent Gallo, Alden Ehrenreich, and Maribel Verdu. Bennie travels to Buenos Aires to find his long-missing older brother, a once-promising writer who is now a remnant of his former self. Bennie's discovery of his brother's near-finished play might hold the answer to understanding their shared past and renewing their bond.
'Where the Buffalo Roam' (1980) -- Starring Bill Murray, Peter Boyle, and Bruno Kirby. Semi-biographical film based on the experiences of gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson.

'Post Tenebras Lux' (2012) -- Starring Adolfo Jimenez Castro, Nathalia Acevedo, and Willebaldo Torres. Juan and his urban family live in the Mexican countryside, where they enjoy and suffer a world apart. And nobody knows if these two worlds are complementary or if they strive to eliminate one another.
December 5
'Lovelace' (2013) -- Starring Amanda Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, and Hank Azaria. The story of Linda Lovelace, who is used and abused by the porn industry at the behest of her coercive husband, before taking control of her life.
'Wish You Were Here' (2012) -- Starring Felicity Price, Joel Edgerton, and Teresa Palmer. Four friends lose themselves in a carefree South-East Asian holiday. Only three come back. Dave and Alice return home to their young family desperate for answers about Jeremy's mysterious disappearance. When Alice's sister Steph returns not long after, a nasty secret is revealed about the night her boyfriend went missing.

'Holes' (2003) -- Starring Shia LaBeouf, Sigourney Weaver, and Jon Voight. A wrongfully convicted boy is sent to a brutal desert detention camp where he joins the job of digging holes for some mysterious reason.
'Lady Gaga and the Muppets' Holiday Spectacular' (2013) -- Starring Lady Gaga, Elton John, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The pop star and some special celebrity friends join the Muppets for a holiday celebration!
'Syrup' (2013) -- Starring Brittany Snow, Amber Heard, and Kellan Lutz. A slacker hatches a million-dollar idea. But, in order to see it through, he has to learn to trust his attractive corporate counterpart. Based on Max Barry's novel.

'American Horror Story: Asylum' (2012-2013) -- Starring Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Zachary Quinto and Sarah Paulson. The second installment of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's TV horror anthology takes us to an insane asylum run by the sadistic Sister Jude.

'C.O.G.' (2013) -- Starring Jonathan Groff, Denis O'Hare, and Corey Stoll. A cocky young man travels to Oregon to work on an apple farm. Out of his element, he finds his lifestyle and notions being picked apart by everyone who crosses his path.

'Berberian Sound Studio' (2012) -- Starring Toby Jones, Tonia Sotiropoulou, and Cosimo Fusco. A sound engineer's work for an Italian horror studio becomes a terrifying case of life imitating art.
'Sightseers' (2012) -- Starring Alice Lowe, Eileen Davies, and Steve Oram. Chris wants to show girlfriend Tina his world, but events soon conspire against the couple and their dream caravan holiday takes a very wrong turn.
