Tired Of Transplants Moving To Montana? We’ve Got Good News!
If you are one of the many Montanans who's fed up with all of the transplants moving to The Treasure State, I have some good news for you!
For the last few years, we've seen thousands of folks from different states move to Montana, many on a part-time basis. The result of this "Montana Migration" has resulted in a housing crisis with little inventory and over-inflated prices. Houses doubled in price in a matter of months and many who were looking to buy were left out in the cold as bidding wars drove up the prices even more.
For a couple of years, Bozeman was considered one of the fastest-growing communities in the country, and according to a recent report, it looks like things are starting to change here in Big Sky Country.

According to the United States Census Bureau, while people are still moving to Montana, it looks like things have slowed down considerably. According to the data, Montana is no longer ranked as one of the top destinations and it appears that Texas is the place Americans are now moving to.
Taking a look at the numbers, Texas has 8 of the top 15 destinations on the list. Other states represented include Arkansas, California, Florida, Ohio, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
While it doesn't go into the reason for the Montana decline, one can assume that housing is a big factor. Not only are the price of houses expensive in Montana, but the builders can't seem to keep up with the demand.
What was the percentage of growth in Montana?
The Census Bureau states that between July 1st, 2022, and July 1st, 2023, Montana saw a growth of 0.9 percent. So while it may seem like thousands of folks are moving here, according to the numbers, that doesn't seem to be the case.
With the decline of people moving here, does that mean we will start to see a big drop in housing costs? In some parts of the state that's a possibility, however, in popular places where the demand is always high, folks can expect to see more of the same according to experts.
