I realize that suggesting people move to Montana will land me on a few !@#$ lists.

While many Montanans are over the "Montana Migration" and are tired of seeing people from other states move here, business owners struggle to hire good people to do the jobs needed to keep the state rolling along.

It's a classic catch-22. Either way, someone is going to be unhappy.

So what do you do? Well, of course, you move forward and that means continuing to grow and build. While plenty of old Montana left, places like Billings, Bozeman, Kalispell, Missoula, and other bigger cities continue to deal with rapid growth. That means buildings, homes, and infrastructure need to be built.

Where does Montana rank when it comes to jobs?

One source has Montana ranked near the top when it comes to the best states to land a new job. Coworking Cafe released data that showed which states are the best for new jobs and Montana came in 12th. Here are some other facts to pass along as well:

  • Unemployed persons per job opening: 0.44 (#1)
  • Job growth: 2.8% (#3)
  • Population with advanced degree: 31% (#6)
  • State income tax burden: 5.9% (#7 lowest)
  • Population with health insurance: 91.6% (#6)

Now before you shout at your scene "We're full!" I want you to know that I hear you, and I know where you're coming from. However, many of those same people screaming "Go back where you came from!" are also complaining about the lack of services in some of these towns.

Have you noticed that you're waiting longer to get into certain types of businesses? Have you tried to schedule an appointment with a mechanic? Have you noticed the line is longer at the Pharmacy? Have you called about a home repair service and been told you'll be added to the list?

Is there a solution to all of this?

Yes, there is, and here it is. The truth is, Montana isn't full. We need more regular people and fewer "fancy rich folks". We need folks who can build houses and fix cars. We need plumbers and electricians and other tradespeople.
