It was recently announced that the new Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Temple in Helena would soon be up and running. Still, before operations begin, there will be an open house for members and non-members of the Church to see not only the outside of the new building but the inside as well.

This will be the second operating LDS Temple in Montana, along with the Billings Temple that opened back in 1999.

The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints has a long history in Montana with the first congregation started back in 1895. With over 50 thousand members of the Church living in Montana, members make up almost 5 percent of the state's population.

The Helena Temple is small compared to some of the Church's other Temples, the new building is 10,000 square feet. However, it is the first Temple to be built using modular construction methods and the services provided are the same in all Temples throughout the world. In order to participate in Temple worship, one must be a member of the Church and be in good standing.

It has become a tradition to have an open house before the dedication of each new Temple, which allows people of all faiths and backgrounds the chance to see what is inside and understand a little more about what Temples are for.

Recently, the Church announced the following dates for the Helena Temple Open House Thursday, May 18th through Saturday, June 3rd. The Temple will be closed on Sundays during that time frame. The Helena Temple is located at 1260 Otter Road in Helena.

And while many Church members in western Montana are excited about a second Temple in the state, they won't have to wait long for a third, as the Church announced last year they will be building an additional Temple in Missoula.
