After A Local Stabbing, How Safe Are Schools In Montana?

By now, you've probably heard about the Billings High School student that stabbed a teacher and then herself.

While there are several different "theories" and "rumors" running around social media, we're going to avoid all of that and address this from a different point of view. Are schools in Montana safe? If not, what do we do to make them safe?

School violence is nothing new, and sadly, we almost seem immune to it. The news media covers and event wall to wall, we as a society are all shocked and demand change, and then a few days pass and we go on with our lives until the next time. And there is always a next time.

Back to what happen in Billings.

A student stabbed a teacher and then themself. Police were called as where medical professionals, both the "victim" and the "attacker" were taken for medical treatment and for a period the high school was on lockdown.

While certainly doesn't compare to one of the mass-shootings that have taken place across the country, it does raise a certain amount of concern about the safety of not only students, but school facility as well.

Does each school in Montana have a plan in place in the event of an attack? Are the teachers and other school personal trained? If not, what needs to be done to bring each school up to speed? Should it be left up to the local school boards, or should the state get involved?

There are all questions that should be addressed so that if and when something were to happen in a Montana school again, there would be solid plans in place to make sure that students and faculty are safe.
