Montana Rodeo Season Ropes In National Headlines
Montanans love their rodeo, and we love sharing that spirit with as many people as we can pack into the stands. Rodeo season runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and that means we’re in the thick of it right now—boots dusty, flags flying, and the smell of fair food in the air. And guess what? The Wall Street Journal noticed.
Yep, The Wall Street Journal took a detour from Wall Street to Big Sky Country and dropped a feature on Montana rodeo life. Their story opened with a trick rider waving the American flag atop a white horse in Augusta, MT, a real-life Lady Liberty moment. You can practically hear the crowd cheering, feel the heat coming off the arena dirt, and taste the fresh popcorn.
The article shines a spotlight on our summer rodeo run, describing it as “a lifetime’s worth of Americana packed into one season.” From bull riding to barrel racing, two-stepping to fireworks, this is more than a sport, it’s our way of life.
WSJ noted what makes our rodeos different: they’re not massive commercial productions, they’re hometown events that bring communities together, all against a backdrop of wild Montana beauty. This year, our state even named American Rodeo the official sport of Montana. How’s that for Montana pride?

So, did y’all catch the WSJ story? Did they get it right? As for me, I live for a good rodeo, especially the Livingston Roundup. Nothing beats it. Hats off to the Wall Street Journal for sharing a piece of real Montana.
