Everyone wants to feel like their safe. Safe in their homes, safe at their jobs or schools, and safe in public.
Here in Montana, other than some of the wildlife, we're considered a safe state, especially in the more rural areas. However, according to some new information, things might be changing here in Big Sky Country.

Data from the FBI and Compare The Market suggests that Montana seems to be on the move when it comes to increased crime.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation recently released information concerning the increase of crime in the Treasure State, and to be honest, it's a little alarming. So much so that Montana made the Top 10 of states seeing the largest increase of criminal activity.
What crime is on the rise in Montana?
So, what crime has seen the biggest increase in Montana?
According to the data, burglary. The stats show that in Montana from 2025 to 2026, burglary has increased by 16 percent. That percentage puts us ahead of several states with a much larger population like California, New Jersey, and Texas.
What's the cause behind it? Well, that's up for debate. We do know that times are tough for many, however, resorting to a life of crime certainly doesn't sound like a solid plan, especially when you consider that most Montanans own a firearm, or 8.
Another issue could be the disconnection we have with people today. Growing up, if I was a few blocks from home and decided to act the fool with my friend, changes were high my Mom was going to get a call and there would be lots of questions when I got home.
We don't seem to have those social networks anymore.
