Is a No-Hitter as Impressive as It Used to Be? — Sports Survey of the Day
On Tuesday night, Reds pitcher Homer Bailey threw his second career no-hitter, the first of 2013 in Major League Baseball. He was also the last person to throw one, having also done so late in 2012, a year that saw seven no-nos. So is holding the opposition hitless as impressive a feat as it used to be?
Since 2010, there have been 16 no-hitters. In the 1990s, there were only 31 no-hitters in total.
Clearly Bailey's accomplishment is notable—he becomes only the seventh pitcher in history to hold the last two no-hitters—but are no-hitters losing a bit of their luster as a rare feat of true excellence?
