In recognition of "Save a Life Saturday" on March 24th, the Gallatin Heart Rescue will conduct Bystander CPR Courses at 10:00am and 11:00 in MSU Strand Union Ballroom D.

This 45 minute compression-only course will teach basic skills to help individuals respond in the time of a crisis. Participants will not receive certification cards, but will leave with the ability to perform lifesaving CPR.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) strikes an estimated 295,000 Americans each year. 80% occur in the home. Nationally, 92% of those who suffer SCA die before reaching the hospital. Success begins with bystanders. Communities with higher CPR participation have increased survival, as CPR before the arrival of professional rescuers doubles the chance of survival for a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.

In conjunction with the CPR class, the American Red Cross will be handing out Disaster Preparedness bags. The preparedness bags, which have been provided by the Governor's Office of Community Service, will give residents the guidance needed to shelter in place or evacuate to a shelter during a disaster.

This is a FREE event. Registration is not required, but priority will be given to participants who pre-register. Group registration welcomed. For more information or to register, please contact Alex Black at teamleader@montana.edu or the MSU Office for Community Involvement at 406.994.6902.
