I have had sick kids for about a week now, and the house has been a disaster.  Today, I told the kids that if they cleaned their room, they could be done.

As I was cleaning, I noticed their door was closed (the girls share a room).  I walked in and Emma was cleaning up and Gracie was sitting in her chair reading.  Not a surprising scene for me, so I told Gracie to get her butt up and help.  She said, "I don't have to.  I am paying Emma 5 bucks to clean my side."  Honestly didn't know what to say.  I don't know whether to be horrified or proud!

Emma is learning the value of money and saves for things she wants.  She isn't afraid to work hard, and do jobs that aren't very fun.

Gracie can sell ice to an Eskimo.  I could go on and on about the things she talks people into doing for her...not just kids, either.  I do see her working hard at school and the things she cares about, which is pretty normal for a 6 year old.

I didn't interfere in their arrangement, until I heard that Gracie charged Emma five bucks to wipe the side of her glass off.  She didn't tell her the price until after she was done wiping it.  That's when I stepped in and told Gracie, AKA Tony Soprano, that she can't do that.  Then, I had to talk to Emma about sticking up for herself.

I can already see who these girls are going to be as adults...once again, I don't know whether to be horrified or proud!
