Montana’s Best Melons: The Secret To The Sweetest Summer
One of my favorite things about summer in Montana is watermelon.
There is something so refreshing about opening the fridge on a hot summer day and pulling out a slice of super cold watermelon. It just seems to hit the spot every time. Now, I can't speak for you, but it seems my watermelon-picking skills aren't what they used to be.
For whatever reason, I've yet to pick a winner from the grocery store. It's not for lack of trying, we've bought a few this summer and have yet to grab one that has all the flavor you expect this time of year.
Luckily for us, Dixon Melons are available at several of the Farmer's Markets around Montana.
If you've spent any time in Montana, you've certainly heard of Dixon Melons. Considered by locals to be the best melons in the state, folks look forward all year long to sinking their teeth into the delicious sweetness of a Dixon watermelon, cantaloupe, or honeydew.
Where can I find Dixon Melons?
The Dixon Farm Stand in Dixon is open 7 days a week. The stand is open Monday through Friday from 10 am until 6 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am until 4 pm. While summer is starting to wind down, Dixon Melons are available at the following locations:
- Missoula Farmer's Market
- Clark Fork Market (Missoula)
- Butte Farmer's Market
- Helena Farmers' Market
- Gallatin Valley Farmer's Market (Bozeman)
- Columbia Falls Farmer's Market
- Polson Farmer's Market
Dixon Melons are known for their quality, but their uniqueness. Dixon is home to the yellow watermelon and while it might look weird, it tastes fantastic.
