Why Bozeman Is The Best Place For Comfort Food In Montana
Montana is known for lots of things. It's history, it's scenery, it's National parks, and it's adventure.
However, there is more to Montana than just that. Not only do we offer all of the outdoor adventure, but we also offer some culinary adventure. You wouldn't think that a state with more cows than people would have so many amazing places to dine, but here in Big Sky Country, we take our food seriously.

We've chatted a lot about the different types of places you will find here in Montana. From mom-and-pop diners to 5-Star cuisine prepared by world-class chefs, here's my take: I love good food, and it doesn't matter where it came from. So, if it's barbecue from a food truck or a steak with fine china and multiple forks, I'm all about it.
Having said that, let's talk comfort food.
When you think of Montana comfort food, what comes to mind? Is it beef? Bison? Elk? Vinison? Is it something with huckleberries or Flathead cherries? How about a pork chop sandwich or a pasty? For me, it's breakfast.
I'm a huge breakfast fan. I'm one of those folks who can eat breakfast for lunch or dinner, or any other time for that matter. Biscuits and gravy, eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, bacon, toast, all of it. There's just something about a really good plate of breakfast food that says comfort.
Here in Montana, we're blessed to have some pretty solid breakfast spots. In fact, according to one source, out of the 8 spots listed for the Best Comfort Food in Montana, 4 of them are breakfast joints in Bozeman.
The publication Family Destinations Guide published an article about the best places to get comfort food, and Bozeman showed up big time. Now, it's no secret that Bozeman is a lightning rod for opinions, but one thing people can't argue is that we have some pretty delicious places to eat.
I mean, think about it. Out of 8 restaurants, 4 of them are in Bozeman. I'm no math whiz, but I'm pretty sure that's 50 percent.
Where is the best comfort food in Bozeman?
As mentioned, there are 4 entries, and we will count them down below:
- # 6 Main Street Overeasy - Open 7 days a week, Main Street Overeasy opens each day at 7 am. They serve all of the breakfast classics, including delicious cinnamon rolls, while they last.
- # 5 Storm Castle Cafe - Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, this Bozeman favorite is one of my favorite places to eat. They're only open a few days a week, and they don't take reservations, but they provide huge portions, and their food is fantastic. Try the Monte Cristo and thank me later.
- # 3 The Western Cafe - If you're looking for a great meal while enjoying "Old Bozeman", the Western is the place to be. Locals and tourists alike line up to enjoy this throwback. Not only is the food great, but the environment is as Montana as it gets. They're open at 6 am, 7 days a week.
