The folks over at Montana For Limited Government released some data on one of their social media sites that broke down the salary needed in each state to afford a home, and not only is Montana one of the most expensive states to buy a home, but it made the Top 10 as far as salary needed.

How much do you need to make a year to buy a home in Montana?

So, what do you need to make a year to afford a home in Montana? 80 grand? 100? 120? 150??? Try 177 thousand dollars a year. Yep, that is the salary that is required for you to be able to afford a home here in Big Sky Country.

So how does that compare to the other states? Well, I can tell you this, according to the data, the only state in the entire western part of the U.S. where a higher yearly income is required is....you guessed, California.

Here's something else to know, other than California, there are only three other states that require more of a yearly income to purchase a home. Hawaii, New York, and Massachusetts.

So, Montana is ranked 5th out of the 50 states.
