The Bozeman Police Department had been searching for the suspect of a sexual and physical assault since June 9th.  The suspect was identified as Joseph Sterling Mueller, a 36-year-old male resident of California. 

Mueller was located, on Tuesday, June 23rd, and taken into custody by the Michigan State Police in southwest Michigan. He is currently awaiting extradition proceedings to be returned to Montana. 

A warrant for Mueller’s arrest was issued by the Gallatin County Justice Court for felony sexual assault after Bozeman police were called to 600 W. Lamme St. to investigate an alleged sexual assault on June 9th.  The victim told police that a male acquaintance had physically and sexually assaulted her just after midnight before fleeing the area on foot.

Bozeman police have stated they are "grateful for the on-going support and trust of our community. Thank you to our community members who provided information that assisted with this investigation."
