‘Batman vs. Superman’? ‘Man of Steel’ Writer David Goyer on Possible Titles for the Crossover
After a few years of cool, iconic titles like 'The Dark Knight' and 'Man of Steel,' it looks like the upcoming Batman and Superman crossover film is going to be a bit more blunt. Although an official title wasn't revealed at the Warner Bros. Hall H presentation at Comic-Con 2013, screenwriter David S. Goyer was a little more candid at a panel celebrating the 75th anniversary of Superman.
According to Goyer, two titles are being tossed around for the 'Man of Steel' follow-up, 'Superman vs. Batman' and 'Batman vs. Superman.' Via Collider:
“...we’re actually not sure whether the title is Superman vs. Batman or Batman vs. Superman but yes, it’s–that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening.”
Although that title certainly gets the point across, we can't help but be disappointed for two reasons. First, it simply lacks the pizazz of recent DC universe films, sounding like a cheesy knock-off going straight to home video instead of a major motion picture from a respectable movie studio.
Secondly, the 'Batman vs. Superman' seems to suggest this will be a movie where the two heroes simply pummel each other for much of the running time instead of team up. Although heroes meeting, mistaking intentions and fighting each other has been a staple of comic-book storytelling for as long as the medium has been around, and worked for 'The Avengers,' we're hoping something more befitting of this epic crossover is thought up.
The Batman-Superman crossover movie will be directed by Zack Snyder, written by Goyer and executive produced by Christopher Nolan, with an expected release in summer 2015.
