Let's be real...there are times we go out to breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and the service or the food wasn't up to par with what we were hoping. It's a tough situation, right? You don't want to take it out on the server who didn't cook your meal, and you don't want to yell at the kitchen for not filling your drink.

I recently ran into a couple from Billings and we got to chatting. A young couple who travel all over Montana for work. They were telling me how they had had terrible service everywhere they stop. I was a bit surprised, considering I have always had pretty dang good service. Perhaps they made one of these comments? Let's hope not.

Here are 4 things NO Montana server wants to hear.

1. "This is the worst (insert food) I have ever had." Ok, well that is a little far-fetched. I mean the WORST EVER"? No server wants to hear this, plus, your server didn't make the food.

2. Can I substitute 11 things for this meal? The answer is no...you shouldn't anyway. If you don't like what is on the specific menu item, then why even order it? I get it if you don't like onions, mushrooms, or whatever and ask for them to take the item off, but when I hear someone ask for more than 2 substitutions, in my head I am thinking, "well this is about to get messed up".

3. What's good on the menu? Are we really going to play this game? No. First off, what I think is good vs. what you think is good, can be very different. Now what a good server would say is, "is there anything you really don't care for"? Tomatoes? Onions? Garlic? Then you can let them know what items have those so they don't end up with something they won't like before even getting their meal.

4.  You should smile more. There is no situation where you should ever say this to anyone. No one likes to hear that your face bugs them. Some of us suffer from RBF (as if we already didn't know this), and you telling us to "smile more" is gonna put us over the edge.

If you are hoping to have great service, wherever you go to indulge in a cooked meal, then keep these 4 things in mind. Trust me, it will help you in the long run.
