A proposal to ban all pets sales in San Francisco is being considered by the city’s Board of Supervisors.

According to those who have proposed the ban, the rational behind it is twofold. It would encourage San Franciscans to adopt animals from shelters and rescue organization, and it would put an end to what animal rights activists claim are inhumane conditions in puppy mills and kitten factories.

I have always been a dog person. When I was young my dog would have to go to my Aunt’s house about an hour away anytime we would go on vacation, and sometimes it would take a few days after we got back until we were able to go get her. My mom loves to tell how I would always be “sick” until we would go pick her up. Now days I have three crazy dogs that are the center of my universe. Kobe – my black lab – has a particularly special place in my heart.
