Why People Are Brushing Their Cats With Wet Toothbrushes
When it comes to social media, TikTok is in the lead for trending content and memes. The latest trend on the app has users wetting a toothbrush and then using it to brush their cats. Seems kind of strange, right?
Users are claiming cats love the sensation because it reminds them of getting groomed by their mother's tongue. The cats become instantly soothed and relaxed. Most TikTokers are joining in on the trend by sharing videos of their own cats enjoying this new technique. If you're not familiar with TikTok, people share their own video using the audio from the original video to join the trend.
The original video by @itsdynah states:
I saw this thing on TikTok that said if you brush your cat with a damp toothbrush, it reminds them of being groomed by their mothers when they were kittens. So my cat hates being brushed, so I figured I would try it, and it worked! Duet this if it works with your cat too.
The TikTok videos are adorable but Metro News spoke to Cats Protection and they mentioned that not all cats may respond the same and "it will depend on their personality, level of socialization as a young kitten, and whether they’ve had positive experiences of being groomed."
Experts recommend giving your cat one or two regular brushings per week, though they did not recommend doing it with a toothbrush.
